Throughout the state the vast majority of veterinary technicians and veterinary nurses are not registered. A registered veterinary technician has successfully completed two years of rigorous schooling and hands on training in the field of animal care. Unlike non-registered technicians, RVTs are licensed by the state of California to perform certain tasks. Although a veterinarian supervises all duties performed by both licensed and non-licensed technicians, it is common, in many hospitals, for unlicensed staff to perform duties that the states deems them unqualified to perform. Some of these duties include inducing and monitoring anesthesia, the application of splints, and performing tooth extractions. You can rest assured that every procedure performed at Belmont Shore Veterinary Hospital is being performed by a highly qualified staff member who is trained and licensed by the state of California!! |
